#32 of 52 The Power of Daily Routines: Inspired by Brandt McCartney!

Hello again, Jon Macaskill here, retired Navy SEAL Commander turned Mindfulness and Leadership coach from Frogman Mindfulness and the Men Talking Mindfulness Podcast.

Welcome to the latest edition of my Frogman Mindfulness newsletter/blog!

Today, I want to talk about something we often overlook, yet holds great power over our lives – our daily routines.

I was recently inspired by my good friend Brandt McCartney, the founder of The 38 Challenge, a non-profit that is working eliminate suicide through challenging the stigma associated with seeking help and showing vulnerability. Brandt’s dedication to his daily 5 P’s and to transforming lives made me reflect on the significant role routines play in our lives.

Routines create a sense of order and predictability. They help us control the uncontrollable, create a sense of safety and improve our mental well-being. It’s like the steady rhythm of a drum that our body and mind synchronize with, keeping us in harmony with our inner selves.

A mindful morning routine can set the tone for your entire day. Whether it’s 5 minutes of silence with your cup of coffee or an hour of meditation, find what suits you and stick to it. Remember, the goal is not perfection but persistence.

On the other hand, an evening routine can help us unwind and prepare for a restful night. It’s a time to let go of the day’s burdens and replenish our energy. Just a simple act of gratitude or gentle yoga can work wonders!

To help you establish your daily routines, here are some tips:

    1. Start Small: Don’t rush into setting long, complex routines. Begin with something manageable and gradually build on it.
    2. Consistency is Key: Consistency trumps intensity. It’s better to do something small consistently than to do a lot sporadically.
    3. Flexibility: Life is unpredictable. If you miss your routine one day, don’t be hard on yourself. Just get back on track the next day.

Routines have been pivotal in my journey as a retired Navy SEAL commander, a mindfulness advocate, and a podcast host. They helped me maintain discipline, balance, and a clear vision amidst chaos.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Remember, there’s immense power in the small daily routines. Embrace them, and watch as they unfold their magic.

    Until next time, stay mindful!

    Best, Jon Macaskill
